Manager/Coach's Report for 2010/2011 Season
Wednesday, 13 April 2011 Forest Mariners – Under 9 TeeBall.
Well, we all had a great and enjoyable season. We made it to the Semi’s, but lost out by only a few runs. It was good to have 7 of the players from last year returning and also to welcome 4 new players to the team – 3 having never played before.
Those returning picked up from where they left off last year and improved even more. Those new to the team showed great development from the first game to the last one.
The highlight of the season would have to have been the Pittwater Gala day – 4 games in 4 hours. They all found it a long and enjoyable day.
Robert Buttiglieri – This was his first season of TeeBall and the change from the first game to the last one was immense. His fielding, batting & base running all improved with each game.
Tom James – This was also his first season and also showed a great improvement from the first to the last game. He even became a regular contributor to making outs while fielding.
Hamish Kemmers – A truly reliable fielder and batter. He’d average more than 1 out per game when fielding and more than 1 base per hit when batting. His memorable moment for the season would have been taking a very sharp catch to a ball that was destined to go deep into the outfield.
Thomas Mountstephens – Great left-handed batter and another good fielder. He led the team in the slugging averages. It was unfortunate that he had to miss the last 5 games of the season.
Matthew Norton – He’s been chosen for the Players Player Award. His batting improved throughout the season to see him regularly on base each time at bat. His fielding was also reliable, regularly making outs each game.
Oliver Rand – Another good batter and fielder. He led the team in the batting averages and came second in the team fielding averages. It was unfortunate that he also had to miss the last 5 games of the season.
Max Reid – This was also his first season playing TeeBall and once he understood the game improved extremely well. The highlight for the season for him would have been the big hits he made in our game against Warringah.
Jamey Riddiough – He made 1st base his own during the season. A big hitter and a very safe fielder.
Ben Stuart – Good in batting and fielding and very quick between the bases. He ended up playing the most innings as Pitcher for the season.
Cameron Taylor – Chosen for the Coach’s Award. a great player all round. He led the team in the fielding averages and came second in both the slugging and batting averages for the season.
Evan Thomas – Another reliable player, playing a great number of games at 3rd base and always one to watch when running the bases. It was unfortunate he had to miss 5 games in the middle of the season.
And I cannot forget all the parents who made the season what it was, who provided help when asked and even when not asked:
Richard and Gavin – who ably umpired our home games and even some of the away games;
Alicia and Donna – who controlled the benches fantastically;
Sally and Rebecca – our reliable scorers, who made it possible for me to gather some statistics for the season,
All who served on the canteen – even when it wasn’t our turn,
And all who helped in setting up the diamond, getting the benches and any other task needed for the game.
I don’t think any parent missed out in contributing.
We both wish all players the best during the off-season and hope to see you all again in September.
Greg Thomas John Rand
